The Final Week (6 Weeks Without Sweets)

Can you believe it?!

I’m on the final week of The No Sweets Challenge that my mom and I decided to embark on together!

It’s been a journey thus far, but an easy one, to be honest. (more on this in a bit)

“Why on earth would you do that??”

Before the New Year, my mom came over to visit, and I facetiously said “We should do a no sweets challenge.”

If you read my two weeks update, you’ll know that my mom and I are huge Sweet Fanatics. We could literally eat and live off of sweets every single day. Which is why we chose to commit to the challenge.

“For how long?”, my mom replied.

At this point, I was like a deer caught in headlights because I didn’t expect her to take me seriously, lol.

“Six weeks…?”, I said.

By this time, I knew I was in too deep to renege, so I quickly convinced myself that I was actually going to do the challenge.

“No sweets?? What does that mean?”

It’s easy to think that I’m suggesting I won’t be eating any processed sugar when I say “no sweets.”

However, that’s not what I mean.

Outside of eating cake, cookies, ice cream, and brownies, I wouldn’t say I have a “sugar problem“. However, I unintentionally haven’t been eating any processed sugar due to my chosen way of daily nutrition.

Our goal (mom and I) was to avoid trigger foods, such as the foods listed above for 42 days, or, six weeks.

We’ve also been eating more nutritious foods, drinking water, exercising, and getting more sleep. You can read more on that here.

Temptation!!! Lol.

“So, have you noticed any benefits?”

The biggest benefit I’ve noticed throughout this challenge is the significant decrease in cravings.

Every now and then I will see something yummy looking on social media, but it wouldn’t tempt me to want to eat it.

Furthermore, the benefit that I have loved the most is having a new and improved understanding of what I want for myself and my health going forward.

Tasty sweets are everything(!) to me. However, I know (and see) that it shouldn’t lead me or have control over me the way that it always does.

I value health. Therefore, (excessive) sweets does not fit into my lifestyle.

As for my mom, she has noticed a significant drop in her blood sugar levels since we started the challenge, which makes her closer to her goal of a decrease in diabetes medication.

“Six weeks, and that’s it??”

Although my mom and I dedicated ourselves to six weeks, we both have plans to make this challenge a lifestyle.

That doesn’t mean we will never have sweets again. This is plainly unrealistic and ain’t nobody got time for that lol!

However, I plan to finish February without any sweets and only enjoy sweets on special occasions (birthdays, holidays, etc).

This boundary may or may not work for everyone, but for me, I think it’ll work wonders. Especially since sweets have always been my downfall. There was never an in-between.

And who knows, I may finally start baking my own sweets from now on, using healthier ingredients. The sky is the limit lol!

Until then, I’m taking things one day at a time and leaving you with an eye-gasm πŸ™‚

Will you be joining in on the challenge/lifestyle with us? Have you ever done something like this before? How did it make you feel? Was it beneficial enough to prevent you from going back? Let me know in the comments!
