Managing Motherhood & Weight Loss

Can I be added to the list of people who say “Mommin’ is hard!?”

I mean c’mon, the work load never stops.

I love being a mom, and I love being with my kids 24/7. However, I personally think that I’m in a mental space where it feels like my nights and days are running together.

No worries though. I’m hopeful that things will slow down as they always do, so I’m waiting it out.

As January comes to a close, I can’t help but notice the usual mental challenges that I always seem to struggle with in my fitness/health journey.

…Wanting to quit!

I know I don’t want to quit, but I’m at the phase of my journey where my entire being is screaming at me to go back to my usual habits; eating inconsistently, munching on sweets and salty junk food, and skipping my workout because I just don’t feel like doing it.

Being so busy as a mom and wife doesn’t make it any easier, either.

Between doing what I have to do for them on a daily basis, it’s extremely easy for my goals to fall by the wayside.

Bomb-seasoned Alaskan Salmon, mashed potatoes, asparagus

However, I won’t be doing that around these parts!

For one, I’m absolutely FED UP with beginning again (my journey). Secondly, I know what my goals are. Therefore, I won’t be giving up.

Here are a few things that have been helping me push past the urge to give up and go back to my old ways;

Sticking With My Eating Times

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had a bad habit of not eating enough.

Many may think that skimping on eating will lead to weight loss.

You’re not wrong. However, I’ve noticed a surplus of things that happen when I don’t eat enough.

Inconsistent moods, being HANGRY, and chomping on foods that don’t serve me well.

As I’ve continued with my wellness journey, I’ve made sure to eat at specific times, daily.

And let me tell you, I never realized how much I love not being hungry!

Being consistent with my nutrition, keeps me satisfied, on track, and it gives me the feeling of stability.

It also eliminates snacking, which is a major success for me!

I believe this is the best plant-based protein I’ve ever tasted! No lie!

Do The Thing Anyway

There are plenty of moments when I don’t feel like preparing a healthy meal, exercising, or eating consistently (can you tell this whole eating thing is a huge struggle for me!?).

But, how easy would it be to not do the thing??

I’m slowly realizing that ‘easy’ will only get me dreams, wishes, and desires.

Easy is what’s keeping me from my goal of good health, a lean body, and healthy mind.

Easy keeps me frustrated and leads me to failure, every single time.

So yes, I may get irritated and impatient when I feel overwhelmed by the amount of things needed to be done in the day but, at this point in my journey, I would rather just do the thing anyway.

Because when you really think about it, we have to make choices anyway, whether good or bad. So, why not go the not-so-easy route?

I like to believe that I’ll get stronger in the decision making area as I continue to do it anyway.

Research

In the past, whenever I would come up on an internal fitness struggle, I would simply fold and give up.

I mean, I would use whatever strength I had left in me to get over the hurdle.

But let’s be honest; at the end of a usual day for mom’s, I was exhausted.

So now, whenever I’m faced with a hurdle, I Google!

Seriously you guys, there is NO LIMIT to what you will find or gain insight on the internet!

I’ve Googled;

  • Why is it so hard to stick to a healthy lifestyle?
  • Why should I want to stick to a healthy lifestyle?
  • Imposter syndrome and dieting…? (I didn’t know this was an actual thing either!)
  • And much more!

The next time you are faced with a fitness hurdle, take my heed, and look it up! It’ll help you a ton!

I use this same protein powder! I have ice, almond milk (with instant coffee grounds), or cold coffee. Then I add some sugar-free coffee syrup – I think it’s called Torani. I found them at Walmart in the coffee aisle. SO GOOD. They have salted caramel and hazelnut.
